Hello Friends,
Last week I talked about an emotion that we often feel conflicted about—anger. This week, I’m talking about another topic that I often feel conflicted about—money. Why do I feel guilty when I talk about money!? Sometimes…I hate money. But I also know that like anger, money can be a force for good! I actually read this article the other day on money and compassion if you’re curious about what the research says.
But this blog post is not about the research. It’s…well…an honest conversation. We all need money to (hopefully) help and heal the world, and also to support ourselves and our loved ones. My husband(-like-thing) often jokes that I “don’t care about making money.” This is only a little true. I do care about making money so that we can pay bills, maybe someday buy a house, someday retire, and support my kids’ futures. But most importantly I need money to keep doing what I do to help children and caregivers access the healing power of self-compassion!
The #1 Way to Help
If you’d like to support my work of helping children and caregivers grow self-compassion, the #1 best way you can help is to share about my work with others and become a paid subscriber to my newsletter. A big THANK YOU to those who already subscribe, and a please consider for those who haven’t yet (click HERE to support my work).
The reason why I have a paid subscription is two-fold. I share personal stories in my paid newsletter, and I can’t make all of my family’s stuff public (especially now that bots can read all our stuff!). And also, it supports my work. You might think that $5 a month won’t make a difference, but the cumulative effect is great.
Something I’m doing for Free—The Intergenerational Healing Summit
Now let’s talk about something that makes me 0 money: the Intergenerational Healing Summit. I volunteered my time to interview people and organize the intergenerational healing summit because I want the healing resource of self-compassion to spread far and wide! I do a lot of volunteer work for the Global Compassion Coalition (GCC), and I love that its mission is so aligned with ours: to spread compassion across the generations and throughout the world!
If you sign up for the summit (here’s the sign-up link), it’s free for you during the five days of the summit. If you choose to donate or buy unlimited access to the summit recordings (completely optional), all proceeds will support the Global Compassion Coalition’s intergenerational compassion projects. Together we can help more families and communities heal.
Upcoming Opportunities to Learn
This fall I’ll be teaching Fierce Self-Compassion and my Parent-Child MSC classes live online. I’ve also created self-paced online self-compassion courses for people of all ages so that if there’s not enough participants to offer a live class, I can still make the course available. I never want money or numbers to stand in the way of people finding healing resources!
And my Level 1 Teacher Training is also open for registration: Here's what Claudia Cavallaro, our first program graduate, says about the training:
"Jamie Lynn's Level 1 Mindfulness and Self-Compassion for Kids Teacher Training is more than an introductory program for adults interested in teaching kids mindfulness and self-compassion. It's a one-stop-shop, all comprehensive program that's structured, accessible, and research-based. The workbook is equally designed and delivered. It's more than an educational curriculum - it's a lifelong toolkit of coping strategies to self-regulate that will serve your students and children as well as your grown-up self."
My biggest service project
Finally, my workbooks for kids are one of my biggest service projects. I paid $12,000 to the illustrators, formatters, editors, and kids who helped me create Volumes 1 & 2 of the Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Workbooks for Kids. And that doesn’t include paying myself anything for creating the books. I cross my fingers that someday my award-winning books will sell enough copies that I’ll be able to pay myself for making them, but there’s no guarantee. Even so, I’m moving forward with Volume 2 (it’s amazing!), which will be published in January.
So…why do I do what I do? Because I care!!! There’s nothing I care about more than helping kids who struggle learn to love themselves. And also supporting their caregivers because it’s all messy and hard! When we’re on our death beds, I don’t think any of us are going to care about money. But we will care about how present we were in our lives and the impact we had on others (including the generations to come).
As with many things in life, two things are true: fierce self-compassion tells us that we are worth making money and getting paid for our work, and compassion tells us to serve the world with our gifts and give away what we have for the world’s benefit.
Sooo….you can…

Jamie Lynn
P.S. My younger daughter has always wished for a pet, but unfortunately there’s no dogs allowed in our duplex and I’m quite allergic to many animals. BUT I have a friend who is out of the country for a few weeks, and she asked if my daughter could watch her pet bunny. Bunny-sitting is making my younger daughter, Anjali, very happy!
